Program details

Enjoy a tour of Athens that combines many of the city’s principal modern and classical sights. With a history spanning 3,400 years, Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world. This tour includes an overview of the modern city and its striking contrast with the remains of the past.

Firstly, explore the more modern parts of the city. Drive by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Syntagma Square and the Panathinaikos Stadium, site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. View the Presidential Palace (formerly the Royal Palace) and many government buildings and elegant homes. Cruise along the picturesque Panepistimiou Avenue and view the relatively modern Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University and National Library ending at the busy traffic hub, Omonia Square.

In contrast, behold the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus and the crowning glory of Athens, the Acropolis. See its many monuments on top of its mountain perch, including the awesome Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion with its Porch of Maidens. Then visit the Acropolis Museum an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis.

Complete the tour with a walking tour in Plaka (the old town) otherwise known as the Neighbourhood of the Gods, due to its proximity to the Acropolis offering you free time for shopping or lunch at a local restaurant.
