Add a savoury twist to your stay in Barcelona with this tour of the
two most important wine-making regions in Catalonia. On the one hand, you will discover the wonderful landscapes of Penedes, renowned throughout the country for the excellent quality of its wine and cava. And on the other, you will also visit the astounding winemaking castle Oller del Mar, located in the beautifully green region of Pla del Bages.
Leave the noise of the city behind you and delve into the lush central areas of Catalonia, where thick forests coat the hills and vineyards carpet ample plains and valleys. The regions of Penedes and Pla del Bages are what in Spain are known as Denominacion de Origen, the term used to describe areas that specialise in the
production of good wine, not dissimilar to the French denominations.
Begin this
treat for the senses by visiting the lush region of Penedes, where you will pay a visit to the Finca Ca N’Estella, creators of one of the most famous Spanish brands of cava. They are established in a typical Catalan country house. After touring the terrain, you will be invited to tickle your palate with the best sparkling cava around.
The second part of the tour takes you to
discover the traditions, history and wines of the picturesque Pla del Bages; and what better place for wine tasting than a 10th century castle? The owners of Oller del Mas have 36 generations of experience; it will be delightful to say the least.
