Mae Taman is a 45-minute drive from Chiang Mai but is worlds away otherwise. This verdant valley is the home of an elephant camp, where these intelligent creatures are cared for by their handlers. Watch when the elephants are fed and then observe their incredible abilities. Asian elephants possess legendary strength and for centuries have been used to drag logs from forests. Some elephants play catch, tossing items with their trunks, and others have even learned to paint and play harmonicas. No matter what you see, like an elephant, you won’t forget this experience.
Then join the fun yourself and take an elephant for a ride in the jungle. High aboard this noble beast with your head brushing the tree leaves, you will feel like the king of the jungle. Afterwards, take a break for lunch and recharge those batteries for a ride in an authentic Thai bamboo raft along the Mae Tang River.
The final stop of this action-packed day is an orchid farm, a tranquil spot featuring these precious, delicate flowers. The flowers with their explosion of colours, spots and details are exquisite.
