Program details

Follow the footsteps of the mysterious Mayans deep into the lush rainforest to discover an ancient lost city on this incredible jungle safari. Your expert rainforest guide will lead you into the exotic forests of the state of Quintana Roo, home to mighty jaguars, cheeky monkeys, bizarre anteaters and many colourful parrots and other birds. At the heart of this diverse and vibrant forest, discover a secluded hidden city and look out over the treetops from the top of an ancient pyramid.

Amid the diverse jungle setting of Quintana Roo, the ancient Mayans constructed their monumental city, Coba. This huge metropolis would once have housed some 50,000 inhabitants, with a built-up area extending over 80km². Only 5% of the city has been excavated, but still there is a huge amount to see and do. Discover the ancient ballgame courts and the role this sacred sport played in Mayan courtly life and philosophy. Explore the many buildings that look as though they are on the verge of being reclaimed by the jungle at any moment. You will also enjoy a traditional local lunch during your tour.

Finally climb to the summit of the Great Pyramid of Coba, the tallest structure of its type in the Yucatán Peninsula and the last Mayan pyramid that visitors are permitted to climb. The 120 steps are crumbling in places but the reward for your endeavour is one of the most beautiful views in nature, the wild rainforest stretching as far as the eye can see in all directions. This magical journey into Mexico's past will bring the ghosts of the Mayans to life in this enigmatic and beautiful place.
