- Meander around the magnificent Miraflores Visitor Center

What makes Casco Antiguo such a unique treat is that it’s in the middle of being done up! As it has been granted the status of being a UNESCO World Heritage, the restoration is guaranteed to be carried out in such a way where it’ll still keep its heart and soul. Once teemed with gangs and drugs back in the day, the area is certainly safe in comparison and of course it is patrolled by the tourist police to make sure that you don’t go wandering off in to unsafe spots in the surrounding areas.

There are a whole host of large open-air plazas where everybody is welcome to sit back and relax whilst sipping on a cool beer or a creamy coffee. If you’re in to 19th century architecture you’ll enjoy Plaza Bolívar. If you’d prefer to see a more something a bit more rugged and raw, Plaza Herrera is sure to float your boat. Right in the heart of the area, you’ll come across Plaza de la Independencia which is of course home to the Catedral Metropolitana.

Packed full of palaces and churches, you are literally spoilt for choice. Trek along to what’s left of the Church of Santo Domingo which was almost burnt completely down to the ground in the 1700’s. You’ll come to know that some churches are better from the outside whilst others are better from the inside. Make sure you pay attention as we potter along past the pretty palaces are they allow you to get a glimpse in to the past.

Mooch along to the Miraflores Visitor Center where you’ll not only learn about the daily ins and outs at the canal but also get the chance to watch many a boat pass by. Watch a tech audiovisual show which showcases everything from past to present and really be in the know-how.

You are sure to fall in love with this cultural hub, you are more than free to return here on your own. There is so much to see and do, especially as the sun begins to set.
