Program details

Unearth one of Bulgaria’s hidden treasures with this full-day excursion to Koprivshtitsa. ˂br˃˂br˃
This small town is situated in a picturesque valley in the heart of the Sredna Gora mountains, about two hours away from Bulgaria, and is a virtually an open-air museum of Bulgarian National Revival architecture. ˂br˃˂br˃
This charming and ancient settlement was founded in the 14th century but its main attraction has to be the beautiful 19th century houses, painted in bright colours with thick stone walls rising high above the ground revealing colourful courtyards. ˂br˃˂br˃
Koprivshtitsa holds a special place in the hearts of many Bulgarians, for it was here that the first shot was fired in the 1876 April Uprising against Ottoman domination. ˂br˃˂br˃
The guided tour around the town covers the main attractions, including the House of Oslekov, now a museum, as well as many other properties that were once home to eminent national heroes, the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Church of St Nicholas and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin, with its fabulous baroque icons painted by the Bulgarian Revivalist painter Zachari Zograf. ˂br˃˂br˃
In the ethnographic museum, you will be able to admire a wide variety of art treasures and handicrafts, including old weapons, National Revival works of art, fine fretwork, household weaves and embroidery, national costumes and traditional Bulgarian jewellery.
This-full day tour includes transfer, entrance fees, the guided tour as well as the services of an English-speaking guide. Please note that meals and refreshments are not included.
