Head into the mountains around Veracruz and explore some of Mexico's most important and interesting archaeological sites. We'll visit Quiahuiztlan, a ruined city on a mountain top with stunning views over the Gulf of Mexico. Then it's on to Zempoala, with its pyramids, palaces and temples. The last stop is the Spanish colonial-era town of La Antigua.

Head into the mountains around Veracruz and explore some of Mexico's most important and interesting archaeological sites. You'll be picked up from your hotel between 8.45 and 9.15 and we'll drive through sugar cane, mango, tamarind and papaya plantations as we head for Quiahuiztlan. ‹br›‹br› This old Totonac city is located on a mountain top and there are stunning views over the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding coastline. Don't miss the ruins of the cemetery where you'll find 43 tombs that are like small-scale shrines. It is believed that the tradition of bringing offerings to tombs on the Day of the Dead began here. ‹br›‹br› Next stop is Zempoala, an astronomical and ceremonial centre for the Totonac people. Here you will be able to explore its many pyramids, palaces and temples honouring the sun, moon, rain and air gods. ‹br›‹br› Finally, we'll visit La Antigua, an old colonial settlement believed to be the first Spanish town in Mexico. Here we'll visit the oldest church in Mexico and the house of conquistador Hernan Cortes. ‹br›‹br› Then we'll head back to the resort where we will arrive at about 4pm. This full day excursion includes hotel pick up and drop off, all transfers, entrance to archaeological sites, sightseeing tour and the services of a bilingual guide. ‹br›‹br› Please note that you will have to make your own arrangements for lunch. We suggest you bring comfortable shoes and clothes, sunglasses and a cap, sun block and extra cash.
