Explore the sacred space that is the Jaipur and enter a spiritual universe based on Hindu concepts of perfection. Visit the fascinating City Palace Museum, see the landmark Hawa Mahal and visit the astonishing astronomical observatory of Jantar Mantar. This half-day tour is the ideal introduction to the heritage and culture of Rajasthan.

Jaipur was built not even 300 years ago by the Maharaja Jai Singh II, who wanted it to be based on the principles of the mandala, a Hindu circle that represents spirituality, sacredness and perfection. Mandalas are squares with four gates containing a circle with a central point. As a result, Jaipur’s old town is surprisingly ordered and uncluttered.

Jai Singh and his successors lived in the awe-inspiring City Palace, a vast complex of palaces, pavilions, gardens and temples, which is now a museum though a small section is still used by the Jaipur royal family. Admire the intricate carvings of the Pitam Niwaa gate and Peacock Gate, behold the brilliance of the imposing Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal. Pay homage to the Lord Krishna at Shri Govind Dev Temple and visit the Armoury, which houses an impressive array of historic weapons.

Drive past Hawa Mahal, Jaipur’s most famous landmark. This façade of sandstone screens was constructed so that the ladies of the palace could watch the royal processions without being seen by outsiders. Visit Jantar Mantar, the largest stone observatory in the world, which was built by Jai Singh, who was a great admirer of developments in science and technology.
