The museum boasts a 40,000 strong collection of ethnographic objects in an open air exhibition split into two parts: architecture and life in a Ukrainian village before the Revolution, and architecture and life in a socialist village. Costumes, embroidery, glassware and paintings, amongst many other objects, bring the village to life and you’ll see with your own eyes how people lived in these rural houses brought to the museum from all over Ukraine. Be impressed by the wooden churches, with the oldest dating back to 1742, as well as the collection of windmills at the top of the hill that form the central focal point of the museum. Learn about how many century old folk traditions were altered during Soviet Ukraine, but also how many continued to be valued.
