Program details

Explore New York beyond Manhattan with this comprehensive tour of the Bronx. Northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City with a population of 1.5 million, the Bronx has an identity and atmosphere all of its own. Explore this diverse area's many ethnicities and neighbourhoods, great cultural institutions, and surprising natural beauty.

Swing by the bleachers of the Yankee Stadium, home ballpark for the New York Yankees. Or pay a visit to the animals at the Bronx Zoo. With over 6,000 creatures from chinchillas to chimpanzees, it’s the world’s largest metropolitan zoo and a centre for conservation and preservation of endangered species. Head next door to the stunning Botanical Gardens to wander among 200-year-old trees and view the wrought-iron framed, crystal-palace style greenhouse dating from 1890. Visit the historic Mott Haven district, and take in the Art Deco architecture of the Grand Concourse. Then take a break at Arthur Avenue, the Little Italy of the Bronx, to enjoy a cappuccino and a slice of cake before we continue.

Next its on to the leafy campus of Fordham University, the largest Jesuit University in America. Finally we’ll check out the hilly, secluded enclaves of Fieldston and Riverdale. Once summer escapes for New York’s wealthiest inhabitants, these suburbs are now full of elegant family homes, tree-lined streets and views of the upper reaches of the Hudson River. There’s so much more to discover north of Manhattan, so expand your horizons with this varied and exciting trip.
