Program details

One of Portugal’s most cherished gems is fittingly protected by imposing medieval walls. Behind Evora’s ramparts lies a collection of palaces, churches and ruins so impressive that the city centre has been designated a Unesco World Heritage site.

Highlights
- Wander the picturesque narrow streets in Evora
- Appreciate the full range of handicrafts from Alentejo
- Opportunity to taste Moscatel de Setúbal

The sense of expectation builds up en route as you cross Europe’s longest bridge, the 17km long Vasco da Gama, and pass a beguiling landscape dotted with cork tress, olive groves and vineyards.

Prepare yourself to be entranced at Evora as you wander the narrow streets of whitewashed houses and travel back in time as you visit the main sights: the ruins of the Roman temple, the Gothic cathedral, St Francis’ Church, famed for its macabre Chapel of Bones, and the 16th century university.

The visit will also allow you to appreciate the full range of handicrafts the Alentejo region has to offer, particularly the famous wares made of cork, pottery and copper, and sample local food products. We take a break for lunch at a traditional Portuguese restaurant.

In the afternoon, we head to Azeitao and visit one of the oldest wineries in Portugal, where you will be able sample the delights and taste the traditional Moscatel de Setúbal. Then it’s time drive back to Lisbon after a memorable day.
