HIGHLIGHTS:

* Ride over the roofs of Vienna on the Giant Ferris Wheel

* See the city’s main landmarks lit up by night

* Visit the picturesque village of Grinzing on the outskirts of Vienna

The local authorities have made an art form of floodlighting and this panoramic drive through the Austrian capital will give you a completely new perspective on its squares, boulevards, palaces and churches.

Drive along the renowned Ringstrasse, the broad boulevard that replaced the city walls in the mid-19th century and admire the illuminated assembly of palaces, ministries, churches and opera houses that flank it. See buildings such as the Museum of Applied Arts and the glorious Gothic revival-style City Hall. See the neo-classical Austrian Parliament with its frieze dominated by Emperor Franz Joseph, the brilliant Burgtheater, the neo-Renaissance University faculty, the Votivkirche, the stunning State Opera, the Academy of Fine Arts and many more outstanding architectural marvels.

Arrive at the Giant Ferris Wheel (or Wiener Riesenrad) in the Prater amusement park, which carries you 212 ft above the city and from where you will be able to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the entire city. Then we’re off for a high of another sort with a visit to the picturesque suburb of Grinzing, which still has the air of a village. It is renowned for its Heuriger, taverns that serve young wines from the Danubian valleys. Here you can experience that uniquely Austrian sensation known as Gemütlichkeit, a mix of comfort and cosiness. This visit includes a quarter-litre of wine and is a great way to familiarise yourself with Viennese culture and social life.
