Avoid the crowds and enjoy one of the most amazing visits in Florence: Pitti Palace, once Medici family residence and later residence of the King of Italy, nowadays a spectacularly beautiful art gallery with lavish and richly decorated rooms, and then the beautiful Boboli Gardens, one of the most important examples of Italian gardens in the world.
Meet your private guide in front of the Museum Palazzo Pitti and be ready for one of the most amazing visits you can enjoy in Florence.
Pitti Palace (Palazzo Pitti), the largest and most impressive private residence in the city of Florence at the time of construction (15th century) was ordered by the Florentine banker Lucca Pitti to challenge the hated Medici family. The construction of this majestic building was extended during four centuries and has become the royal palace of three dynasties: the Medici, the Lorraine and the Savoia. With its large square in front, its richly decorated rooms and the beautiful Boboli Gardens, today Pitti Palace is a great example of innovative Renaissance architecture and houses several important museums.
Skip the long lines and discover the Palatine Gallery located on the first floor used as residence by the Grand Dukes of Tuscany and later by the King of Italy. During the 18th century, members of the Lorraine family organized the collection of paintings collected throughout previous centuries by the Medici family and increased it with their own heritage and acquisitions. Here you can admire now masterpieces by Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, Rubens, Lippi, Botticelli, Perugino, etc. With so many famous paintings don’t forget to look up at the ceiling frescoes by Pietro da Cortona, they literally suck you up into a whirling vortex of energy and light! By number and relevance of paintings on display, this is one of Italy’s most important exhibition centres. On the same floor, you can see also the splendid royal apartments of the palace.

The tour continues with a walk through the beautiful Boboli Gardens, which extend behind Palazzo Pitti. This is one of the most important examples of Italian gardens in the world with an exceptional number of valuable classical sculptures and buildings and inspired theatrical directors such as Luchino Visconti and Giorgio Strelher. No wonder it was recently added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will admire here the amphitheatre, the Garden of Knight, the Grotta del Buontalenti (used by Dan Brown in one of the most dramatic scenes of ‘Inferno’), the Kaffeehaus, the Fountain of Neptune and the famous cypresses avenue.
