Description of the tour
Meet your guide in St. Mark’s Square, in the heart of the city. Learn more about the Republic of Venice and about how it became dominant in the past and discover the secrets that lies behind the walls of its most famous landmarks: the St. Marks Basilica (Basilica San Marco), the Clock Tower (Campanile) and the impressive Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) with its adjoining prisons. You will leave the crowded square to enjoy a walk through the real Venice with its maze of narrow passageways and meandering canals punctuated by delicate bridges. You will explore the lively Campo Santa Maria Formosa with its outstanding Gothic Palaces and you will see the famous San Marco trade school that has laid the foundations of the great mercantile empire. You will admire The Miracles Church and Marco Polo's House, a good opportunity to hear tales of this legendary Venetian. After seeing the Church of San Giovanni e Paolo, the “Pantheon of Venice”, you will leave this labyrinth of streets just at the Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto)! Piazza San Marco may be one of the most famous locations in Venice, but the Rialto Bridge is the true heart of the city, thanks to its flea market. You will explore the picturesque area around walking through the maze of Venetian backstreets and small squares, in the past a busy commercial crossroad teeming with local and foreign merchants and you will listen to the most intriguing city tales and legends about the gondoliers and ghosts. The tour ends at the Rialto Bridge, the perfect spot to take a picture of the iconic scenery.
