Orvieto, Umbria, Italy

Description

The Aquila Bianca Hotel opens out on the beautiful hill top town of Orvieto. A perfect location right in the heart of the historical centre, just opposite the Town Hall buildings (1200).
Step outside and walk under the Town Hall arch and you'll be in Piazza della Repubblica (Republic Square) with the Chiesa di Sant Andrea (Saint Andrew's Church). From here you can walk along Orvieto's main shopping street, Corso Cavour, and discover the small shops and artisan boutiques selling traditional products and handicrafts for which Orvieto is renowned. This street takes you towards the medieval clock tower and to the left of this is Piazza del Popolo, Orvieto's biggest piazza dominated by the imposing Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo which was the seat of the Captain of the People in 1284. Today it houses a modern conference centre. The Duomo, a jewel in Italian Gothic architecture, is to the right of the clock tower, along Via del Duomo. On the other side of Piazza della Repubblica, walk along Via Filippeschi until the road forks. If you go down Via della Cava you can visit the well and its caves or by continuing along Via Malabranca you'll come to the oldest part of the medieval quarter where it is very pleasant just to meander along the lanes, taking a look at the small houses, flowered balconies and a glimpse of a courtyard. The Church of San Giovenale is in this area, near the picturesque path along the city walls where there are breathtaking views of the green Paglia Valley.
All this just 5 minutes from our hotel on foot.
The Aquila Bianca Hotel was built more than one hundred years ago, an historic building in a medieval area, valuing art and traditions yet offering modern services and comforts. The Aquila Bianca Hotel welcomes you in its completely renovated reception hall (white like an eagle as the hotel's name suggests) which leads you up a wooden staircase (early 1900s) to its 37 rooms, all fully equipped to maximize your comfort : air conditioning, minibar, private bathroom, satellite tv, free wifi internet connection. The hotel was restored in April 2009.
You can come to us by car and keep it safe in our covered garage.
Enjoy an excellent buffet breakfast in the magical atmosphere of our ball room (late 1800s) ... or relax by sipping a good Orvieto wine in our comfortable armchairs in our bar.
The conference room on the second floor, with 60 seats and a frescoed ceiling, is available for conferences and meetings ... or if you just need to work for a few minutes.
