Knappenberg belongs to an old mining community and is located at almost 1,100 metres above sea level and belongs geographically to North Carinthia. The market town of Hüttenberg, the location of the JUFA Hotel, is a world-renowned mineral site. In addition, it is the home of the legendary mountaineer Heinrich Harrer. Through his friendship with Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, the Tibetan pilgrimage trail “Lingkor” became a far Eastern cultural element in Central Carinthia.
