Il programma nel dettaglio

Undercover a dark and superstitious time in American history, the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692, with the Salem Witches tour from Boston. Learn more about the birth of the American Navy at the pretty coastal town of Marblehead, and visit Abbot Hall to view one of America’s most famous paintings, before travelling on to sinister Salem, the centre of the hysteria surrounding witches in the late 1600s.

From Boston, travel north to your first stop, historic Marblehead. In a pretty location overlooking the ocean, this small fishing town became legendary for its role in the Revolution, as privateers kitted out their ships with cannons, ropes and provender and became instrumental in the escape of the Continental Army after the Battle of Long Island. Scholars generally consider them to be the forerunners of the United States Navy. Visit the beautiful red brick building of Abbot Hall to view the famous painting by Archibald MacNeal Willard, The Spirit of ‘76, also known as Yankee Doodle.

Next arrive in neighbouring Salem, famous for the witch trials that resulted in the deaths of 20 people. There are many attractions and museums in the area, and with the Salem Witches tour you can enjoy a special discounted rate on admissions to the U.S. Custom House, where Nathanial Hawthorne worked for three years, inspiring his classic novel The Scarlett Letter. Discounts also apply to the House of Seven Gables, a colonial mansion immortalised in the book of the same name by Hawthorne, and to the Salem Witch Museum, where you can learn more about this tragic period in American history.
