Il programma nel dettaglio

Be mesmerised by China’s historical water town with this full day excursion from Shanghai to Xitang, where time has stood still for thousands of years. With nine rivers running through the town, most of the houses and shops seem as though they are floating upon the peaceful mirror-like waterways, and have retained their original look and antiquated charm. They create wonderful reflections in the water that are only disturbed momentarily by meandering fishing boats.

You will start by strolling through the town’s distinct collection of covered corridors and narrow lanes. The longest one is known appropriately as the Long Corridor and is a popular attraction of Xitang. It is the perfect way to discover the town as many have done for centuries.

See contemporary woodcarvings exhibited at the Root Carving Art Hall, an ancient art that emphasises the use of natural shapes in gnarled tree roots.
Xitang is major centre of the button industry with some 500 button enterprises, and you can visit the Button Museum of China.

Stop at the Zhu Nianci Fan Calligraphy Hall and the Zhongu Hall whose architectural style dates back to Ming and Qing times. China is often referred to as the ‘land of the silk’ due to being the world’s largest producer of silk and a reputation for excellent quality. Your day will conclude with a visit to a silk factory followed by a dazzling tour of the Shecy Pearl City. This full-day tour also includes lunch at an authentic local restaurant.
