Il programma nel dettaglio

Come and discover Granada’s stunning bullring, one of the many pieces of architecture left behind as part of the city’s Moorish legacy. Wander through all parts of this spectacular “Frascuelo” arena with a detailed audio guide that will explain the history and significance of each area. From the Gate of Triumph entrance to the ring, you will tour its most secret and intimate corners including the corrals and pens, the chapel and the infirmary. Put yourself in the shoes of countless matadors who have faced one ton bulls charging them down as you learn about this typically Spanish tradition.

Learn all about the fascinating history of this bullring and Granada’s rich bullfighting history. The Frascuelo is the third of its kind to be built in the city but the only one that still currently stands. From 1686 to 1876 bullfights were held in the Plaza de la Maestranza, owned by the Maestrantes aristocrats. However this was destroyed by a fire after hosting bullfights for almost 200 years. Three years later “La Chata” bullring was erected in at the Plaza del Triunfo but suffered damage from a cyclone and was closed permanently in 1956.

During the early 20th century’s golden age of bullfighting the Frascuelo bullring was championed by promoter and legendary bullfighter Lagartijillo Chico who made the bold claim to build the arena in just one year. This claim was honoured and the first event was held on September 30th 1928. Learn the history of this arena from that very first fight to the present day.
