Day 1 Lake Como

Arrival in afternoon. Check-in at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Lake Como area.

Day 2 Lake Como: Como, Bellagio

The Como Lake is said to be Italy’s most beautiful lake, and you’ll understand why it entrances celebrities, aristocrats and jetsetters when you see it for yourself today. In the morning we will take a brief tour of Como, a charming and popular town perched on the waterfront of the lake. Narrow streets, artistic monuments and the ancient city walls serve to document the Middle Age times. we pass to the elegant and exclusive resort of Bellagio. With its idyllic location on a promontory on the lake, its colourful flowers, its pastel-coloured buildings lining the lake shore and narrow cobbled streets climbing their way to the hilly centre, Bellagio is often described as one of the most beautiful sights in Italy, and you will almost certainly agree! Spend the afternoon exploring at your own pace the town, strolling amongst the many typically formal Italian gardens. Return for dinner and overnight stay in Lake Como area.

Day 3 Bernina Express, St Moritz

Be prepared for a journey in a spectacular scenery. Ascend the Valtellina, a classic alpine valley with soaring peaks rising steeply on both sides, to Tirano to board the famous Bernina Express. One of the slowest 'express' trains in the world, this Swiss train twists upwards in an amazing sequence of spirals, loops and tunnels to the summit at Ospizio Bernina, the highest station in Europe. Here, you are surrounded by stunning vistas over snow-clad peaks and ice-cold glaciers. Your descent is through the pretty pastures and dense pine forests to the chic resort of St Moritz. You'll have time for a spot of window shopping or perhaps afternoon tea and cake. You may notice the locals speaking an unusual language, Romansch, an ancient and little known Latin tongue. Return for dinner and overnight stay in Lake Como area.

Day 4 Bergamo

After breakfast we visit the historic town of Bergamo. Settled in the Alpine foothills, Bergamo is the most striking town in Lombardy. Structured in two levels, the ’lower’ city is more modern and dynamic, whilst the famous ‘upper city’ boasts a stunning historic centre full of medieval and Renaissance buildings centred round the Piazza Vecchia. The cobbled streets are lined with traditional shops displaying a mouth-watering range of delicacies. We will enjoy a guided tour followed by some free time to explore by our own pace. For art lovers there is the Galleria dell’Accademia. Dinner and overnight stay in Lake Como area

Day 5 Lake Maggiore: Stresa, Isola Bella

Today we visit nearby Lake Maggiore and its most attractive lakeside town, Stresa. Stroll along its palm-lined promenade with views across to the Borromean Islands. We will take the short boat trip to Isola Bella, to see the 17th century baroque palace built by Carlo III of the House of Borromeo for his wife Isabella. Surrounded by terraced gardens that were inspired by the ‘Hanging Gardens of Babylon’, the palace was the scene of sumptuous and lavish parties, attended by the cream of European nobility. Spend the afternoon in Stresa exploring at your own pace the town. For the literary enthusiasts, relax at the bar of the Grand Hotel, featured in Hemingway’s ‘A Farewell to Arms’. To see everything you could experience the cable car to the summit of Monte Mottarone for panoramic views before returning to our hotel for dinner. Return for dinner and overnight stay in Lake Como area.

Day 6 Lake Lugano: Lugano

This morning we will travel to Lugano, capital of Ticino, known also as the "Monte Carlo of Switzerland" and offering an eclectic mix of traditional Swiss values and the more laid-back Latin influences from across the border. We will have time to sip an espresso on the Piazza Riforma, ideal place for people-watching, and to stroll along the lakeside promenade or along the fashionable shops on refined Via Nassa with the best Swiss luxury goods and delicious chocolate. Return for dinner and overnight stay in Lake Como area

Day 7 Lake Como

Today is for you to choose what you do. Enjoy a delicious Italian coffee in one of the pleasant cafes or stretch your legs to explore the lake on a bike ride or by foot. Alternatively you may decide to take the boat to the lakeside town of Como or visit the gardens of Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo. Dinner and overnight stay in Lake Como area.
