Day 2 Island of Capri
Today we take the hydrofoil to the Island of Capri, renowned all over the world for its outstanding natural beauty. It has long been the most sought-after part of the Bay of Naples: not only attracting three Roman emperors, but also writers such as D.H. Lawrence, Graham Greene and George Bernard Shaw who sought inspiration here or have made it their home. It is easy to see why it is so adored: as we approach the island you can see small fishing boats rising and falling with the gentle waves and pretty shops and restaurants lining the busy quayside. The picturesque main town is perched on the hill looking down on the quaint harbour below. You may wish to visit the famous Blue Grotto – the large cavern which can only be reached by boat and by a freak of nature is bathed in incandescent blue light, hence its name. After enjoying the spectacular views from Villa San Michele in Anacapri, the most charming part of the island, the hydrofoil will get you back to Sorrento and from there we return to Positano for dinner and overnight stay .
Day 3 Caserta’ s Reggia Palace
Day dedicated to the breath-taking 18th Century Royal Palace at Caserta, created by the Bourbon king Charles III to rival Versailles and the Royal Palace in Madrid. It took over 90 years to complete the construction. The palace has more than 1,000 opulent rooms and boasts some of Europe’s most splendid Gardens. The Caserta Royal Palace was more recently used as a film location for the famous movie “Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones” Return for dinner and overnight stay in Positano.
Day 4 Ravello
Departure for Ravello, charming town suspended between sky and sea, and with memorable views over the coast. It has long been a retreat for artists and writers seeking their muse here, from Richard Wagner to Virginia Woolf. After a visit to the magnificent Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone you have free to explore the village as you wish. Return in Positano for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 Amalfi, Sorrento
Morning visit to Amalfi, town perched dramatically on a cliff, overlooking enticing blue seas. After a visit to the Romanesque cathedral of St Andrew we spend some time in the colourful town centre bursting with designer boutiques, restaurants and street side cafés that offer mesmerizing views, a perfect opportunity to try a refreshing gelato or granita made from the superb Amalfi lemons. Continue to Sorrento, the ‘land of lemon groves’ overlooking the Bay of Naples, which inspired literary masters such as Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde, and enchants travellers to this day.
