Zhujiajiao is one of the best protected water towns in China and on this afternoon tour you can delight in its charms, visit its shops and take a tour of a silk mill. This half-day afternoon tour will allow you escape from the busy city of Shanghai and inhabit a quieter world where tranquil waters abound.

Located 26 km west of downtown Shanghai, the 1,700 year old water village of Zhujiajiao will enchant you with its small canals, gentle rivers and the tranquil Dian Shan Lake. Home to over 36 bridges, photo opportunities abound in this picturesque town. The old town has been preserved as a living museum retaining much of its Qing dynasty architecture. Today old historical buildings such as rice shops, banks, spice stores and even a Qing dynasty post office can still be found. There are also numerous small shops in which you will be able to practice your bargaining skills. Zhujiajiao has many sites of historic interest, such as Fangsheng Bridge (the five-arched bridge), Kezhi Garden and the Yuanjin Buddhist Temple.

After two hours of sightseeing in Zhujiajiao, there will be a stop by a silk mill to experience the South Chinese silk making process. Here you may purchase a silk memento including clothing, quilts and handmade rugs. At the conclusion of the tour you will be taken back to your hotel.
