Discover brilliant Bratislava’s most beautiful and interesting attractions with a combined walking and driving tour, and then head out of the city to visit the breathtaking ruins of Devin Castle, nestled atop a hill at the confluence of two rivers. This five-hour tour offers a fascinating insight into the city described as a fairytale by no less than Hans Christian Andersen.

Begin your adventure with a stroll through the historic city centre, taking in sights such as the landmark medieval St Michael’s Gate. Arrive at the Main Square (Hlavné námestie) and admire the Old Town Hall, an eclectic fusion of baroque, neo-Renaissance and neo-Gothic architectural styles. Continue to the grandiose Primate’s Palace, a fairytale building painted in pink and white that is considered the most beautiful palace in the city. See also the Reduta, the elegant base of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, and the gloriously gothic St Martin’s Cathedral before switching to a vehicle for the next leg of the tour.

Pass the Grassalkovich Palace, a rococo and baroque summer palace built in 1760 by a Hungarian noble and which now serves as the presidential palace, before seeing Bratislava Castle. It beckons from its commanding hilltop location overlooking the city, its square towers and burnt red rooftops evoking the past. Visit the Slavin War Memorial, which boasts awesome views over the capital, before leaving for the Devin.

The ruins of Devin Castle offer stunning vistas over the Danube and Morava rivers, and the Slovak and Austrian countrysides. See, too, the picture-postcard Maiden’s Tower and the haunting memorial to those who perished here while trying to escape from communist rule.
