Perched dramatically on a steep gorge, the historic town of Ronda is choc-a-bloc with sights, attractions and culture. Approached through breath-taking, hilly countryside, Ronda is an enchanting destination for a guided excursion. It combines the charm of a traditional Andalusian whitewashed pueblo with the vibrant atmosphere of a large town.

Chance upon a quiet square or the remains of a mosque’s minaret. Wander the narrow medieval streets, boasting a series of renaissance palaces and baroque churches, as you wind your way to the multi-layered bridge across the gorge, which was made famous by Ernest Hemingway in his classic novel For Whom The Bell Tolls.

Pause for a while to take in the sheer drop below. The views down to the river at bottom of the 100 metre-deep ravine are both awesome and frightening. Ronda is considered by many experts to the birthplace of bullfighting and its picture postcard bullring, which houses a museum, is one of the oldest in Spain. Admire the solid and sturdy city walls that have protected the town for centuries and continue to create a sense of exclusivity, hiding what lies behind them but for the odd belfry. Soak in the ambiance of the new town, with its bustling terraced bars and restaurants, and thriving shopping streets.

The route itself is worth the trip, taking you through an incredible variety of landscapes, from coast to rugged mountains, to green rolling hills dotted with white villages and olive groves. A day filled with scenery, sights and culture.
