Discover the beauty and splendour of the magnificent Fenice Theatre in Venice when you join us on the expertly guided tour. Step back in time to the days of extravagance and glamour as your guide leads you through from the foyer to the main theatre hall while explaining the turbulent history of this grandiose home of opera and ballet. Enjoy the view when you visit the Royal box and be amazed by the luxury of the Apollonian Halls.

Originally built back in 1792, the theatre was destroyed by fire in 1836. The new theatre was rebuilt within a year with even greater glamour and luxurious decor and became the venue for many 19th century opera premiers, such as Rossini’s Tancredi, Sigismondo and Semiramide, Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi (“The Capulets and the Montagues”) and Verdi’s Ernani, Attila, Rigoletto, and La Traviata.

Then during 1996, when the theatre was closed for maintenance work, it was burnt to the ground again. This time the fire was deliberate and the electricians responsible went to jail. But once again, just like the mythical bird who gave its name to the theatre, the Fenice (“Phoenix”) rose yet again from the ashes into the elegant venue you see today. Reopened in 2003 and the theatre now holds 1000 people and the original plush extravagance and golden stucco work of earlier days has been expertly reproduced. This visit is a must for all lovers of the great arts.
