Take a walk around the essential sights of Prague’s historic old town, on this tour of the City of a Hundred Spires. This is a great introduction to the historical centre of Prague as you stroll round the most important monuments and history of this cultural capital.

Begin your exploration at the Municipal House, a majestic jewel of modernist art. Then raise your eyes to the Gunpowder Tower, the original city gate, named for its 17th century purpose as a store for gunpowder. Today it acts as a charming entrance to the Old Town as you follow Celetná Street to the Old Town Square, which in itself is an exhibition of centuries of architecture: from the Gothic of Our Lady of Tyn, through examples of modernism and historicism to the Baroque beauty of St. Nicholas Church.

From there continue by Franz Kafka Square Marianské to the square, where stands the Clementine, built at the time as a Jesuit university. Drive along Karlova Street to the stunning Charles Bridge, the symbol of the city. A mighty causeway across the River Vlatava to the Lesser Town, the bridge sits on a series of grand arches and is a monument to Gothic Civil engineering. It is adorned with numerous Baroque statues in a unique combination that makes it one of the city’s highlights.

Follow the right bank of the river to the Jewish Quarter, and end up back in the Old Town Square, with a chance to see the world famous medieval Astronomical Clock, with its Walk of the Apostles and the figure of Death striking the hour.

Step out and see the delights of the city on this tantalising tour of Prague’s City of a Hundred Towers.
