Embrace all that the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro has to offer on this compelling 1-day City Tour. Bursting with life, this dynamic city is at your fingertips as your knowledgeable guides introduce you to its historical monuments and exotic culture.



Your tour begins at UNESCO Cultural Heritage site, Sao Bento Church. One of Rio’s architectural treasures, construction began in 1586 and took over 2 centuries to complete. One of the greatest examples of colonial architecture in Brazil, the monastic simplicity of the Sao Bento Church’s façade hides an exuberant Baroque interior filled with detailed baroque woodcarvings and gold. As your tour continues, we take you past the Pio X Square before pausing at the Nossa Senhora da Candelária Church. Built in 1775, this cathedral-like church is one of the most beautiful in Rio. As you make your way down the main aisle, glance up at the ceiling paintings and relish their intricate artistry. We will stop at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Centre. Opened in 1989, this is the most important cultural centres in the city and one of the most visited art museums in the world.



As we move onto the centre of the city, you will visit the Imperial Palace, a fine example of Portuguese colonial architecture. Built in 1743 to be the governor’s residence, it witnessed some of the country’s most important events including the crowning of kings. A popular part of the tour includes a visit to the Confeitaria Colombo. Founded in 1894, this grand property was the main meeting point for intellectuals and aristocrats. Inside this spectacular building, step back in time and be dazzled by enormous mirrors whose frames are sculpted in jacaranda. Its original furniture, paintings, chandeliers and skylight provide an authentic art-nouveau environment. You will finish this engrossing tour at the Fine Arts National Museum where you can admire a superb collection of paintings and sculptures by key Brazilian artists.
