Unravel the diverse and intriguing history of Germany’s capital city during this three-hour guided tour of Berlin. Visit the site of the Berlin Wall, created in 1961 to isolate West Berlin from East Berlin and East Germany, the Eastern Bloc claimed the wall was to protect against the remaining vestiges of fascism in West Berlin. Others claim that it was to stop the dramatic volume of emigration and defection from Communist Eastern Bloc generally referred to as the brain drain.
Following the fall of the wall and the reunification of Berlin in 1990, sections of the wall remain as a reminder of this period of modern history and as a tribute to the tragic loss of life that occurred as people tried to escape over the wall in a desperate bid for freedom.
Visit the only section that remains of the Death Strip, recalling ingenious escapes that allowed the reunion of family and loved ones. A vital and vibrant reminder of the sum of successes and failures in search of freedom.
