Hungarian life under communism was a lot different to what it is today so book a DictaTour to learn more about socialist Hungary in Budapest. Driving in an authentic communist era vehicle, the renowned Trabant or a Barkas minibus you visit Memento Park, Ecseri flee market and finish with a coffee in a café typical of the socialist period.

Heading off in the classic ‘commie’ car to Memento Park, you take a tour of this open air museum’s intriguing collection of communist-era statues. A bizarre and eerie museum, there are hundreds of statues depicting the communist ideal and its political leaders in bronze, stone and concrete. Giant statues of Lenin, Marx, and Engels, and several Hungarian Communist leaders stand beside those of workers, farmers and athletes. Unlike many other former communist nations where statues were destroyed, here the relics of communism have been stored as a memorial to the era. Here you benefit from the commentary of your guide who will provide the background and historical context to these statues.

Next, get off the beaten track and shop where the locals shop at Ecseri flea market. Here you will find all sorts of treasures and trinkets unique to Hungary.
