Day 1:
Arrival in Sofia
Flight to Sofia. Transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight in Sofia.
Day 2:
Sofia - Rila Monastery - Bansko
Guided tour of Sofia in the morning with the Aleksandar Nevsky Cathedral. Then we will continue to the Rila Monastery which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most important Orthodox monasteries in the world. Afterwards we will continue to our hotel in Bansko.
Day 3:
Bansko - Melnik - Salonica
On the way to the Greek border, we will visit the smallest town in Bulgaria, Melnik. The town has been preserved as a museum town. Here we will also taste the wines of the region, Pirin-Macedonia. Then we will cross the border to Greece and arrive in the afternoon in Salonica. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Day 4:
Salonica - Vergina - Kalampaka
In the morning we will have a guided tour of Salonica. From here, we will go to the excavations of Vergina, where the mound of Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, is located. This region is also called "Aegean - Macedonia". Then we will reach the town of Kalampaka, at the foot of the famous monasteries of Meteora.
Day 5:
Kalampaka - Meteora - Bitola
Today we will visit the famous monasteries of Meteora, which are like birds' nests built on rocks. We will visit the interior of a monastery and marvel at the unique scenery that can be seen from here. Then we will arrive in the Republic of Macedonia, visit the ancient diplomatic city of Bitola and take a tour of the city. The founder of the Turkish state Atatürk also visited the Military Gymnasium here. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6:
Bitola - Ohrid
Morning visit to the excavations of Heraclea Lincestis, founded by Philip II of Macedonia. Then we will drive to the UNESCO-protected town of Ohrid, located on the shores of the lake of the same name. Here we will take a boat ride to enjoy the city. In Ohrid and its surroundings there are 365 churches and monasteries, and the city is nicknamed the "Jerusalem of the Balkans". During our tour we also see the church of St. Periblebtos and its unique frescoes. Return to the hotel in Ohrid.
Day 7:
Ohrid - Tetovo - Skopje
In the morning we leave for the Macedonian capital Skopje. We will stop in Tetovo to visit the famous "colorful mosque". Then we will arrive in Skopje and on our sightseeing tour we will see the old town with the Kale fortress and the grand bazaar, as well as the new town with the memorial house of Mother Teresa and the fountain of Alexander the Great. In the evening a typical Macedonian dinner with music awaits us in a traditional restaurant.
Day 8:
Skopje - Kriva Palanka - Sofia
After breakfast, we will visit the Matka canyon near Skopje where a unique nature awaits us. Before heading to the Bulgarian border, we will visit the monastery of St. Joakim Osogovski near the town of Kriva Palanka. We will arrive at our hotel in Sofia in the afternoon.
Day 9:
Transfer to the airport.
