Day 1 Turin

Arrival in afternoon. Check-in at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Turin

Day 2 Turin

Full day dedicated to the former capital of Italy with its noble Baroque and Mannerist buildings, elegant squares and historical cafés. Guided tour of the historical centre of Turin including the Piazza Castello, lined with several historical mansions, including Palazzo Madama, the San Lorenzo Church and the Royal Theatre, continuing to the Royal Palace and the Antonelliana Tower, the city’s symbol. We will visit also the Cathedral where is kept the Holy Shroud (a linen cloth believed by the Catholics to have been the burial shroud in which Jesus was wrapped after he was taken down from the cross; not exhibited to the public). But Turin means also chocolate, a passion which has lasted for 450 years, so don’t forget to taste the typical “bicerin” – traditional mixed drink of coffee and chocolate.  Enjoy the afternoon at your own peace. Maybe you want to visit the Mole Antonelliana, symbol of Turin and former Jewish synagogue, now hosting the amazing Cinema Museum. You could take the panoramic lift, which rises inside the cupola and up to a terrace from which you can enjoy a breath-taking view of the city. Or maybe you want to visit the Egyptian Museum in Turin, the world’s second largest collection of Egyptian artefacts. Dinner and overnight stay in Turin.

Day 3 Venaria Reale and Basilica of Superga

In the afternoon we visit the Reggia of Venaria Reale, one of the most beautiful and big Savoy Royal Palace. It is a majestic palace with beautiful gardens commissioned on 17th century by the Duke Charles Emmanuel as a gift to his wife and later inspiration for the French Versailles royal palace. The tour will bring you also to the Basilica of Superga on the hills dominating Turin In the crypt of the Basilica are the royal tombs, with the remains of sixty members of the House of Savoy. Return to Turin in the afternoon and time at leisure. Return for dinner and overnight stay in Turin.

Day 4 Langhe-Roero Region: Bra, Grinzane Cavour, Alba

We head to the Langhe area one of Europe’s foremost winemaking regions offering some of the best panoramic views in Italy. We will visit the town of Bra, home of the cheese that bears the town's name and birthplace of the influential Slow Food movement promoting and protecting the heritage, traditions and culture of genuine food. Winding among hills and vineyards, we arrive to Alba, the capital of the Langhe Region. This charming medieval town has a historical centre rich in Roman and Gothic monuments. But Alba is famous above all for its white truffles, fine cheese and, of course, wines. Winding among hills and vineyards, we arrive in Grinzane Cavour, one of the most beautiful of the Langhe, for visiting the castle and tasting some Barolo wines. Once it belonged to Count Camillo Benso of Cavour, one of the architects of the Unification of Italy and Mayor of the village of Grinzane, credited with important discoveries in the field of viticulture, considered as one of the ‘fathers’ of Barolo wine. Return for dinner and overnight stay in Turin.

Day 5 Sacra di San Michele Abbey, Susa

In the morning departure for the Sacra di San Michele Abbey, the symbol of Piedmont Regional Authority, a colossal, picturesque building perched on the top of Monte Pirchiriano, 960m above sea level. To enter the church we have to climb the Scalone dei Morti (Stairway of the Dead), so called because of the niches along the walls which housed the mummified remains of monks, and go through the beautiful Portale dello Zodiaco (Zodiac Door) built by the architect-sculptor Nicolao. Inside the church we can find notable 16th century paintings as well as an oddity - the rocky peak of Monte Pirchiriano coming up through the floor. In the afternoon we continue on to the charming Susa, one of the most important old towns in Piedmont, full of remains from Roman and Medieval times. We enter the old town through the imposing 3rd century Porta Savoia or Gate to Paradise, part of the sturdy walls that surrounded Susa against barbarian invasions. From here we visit the Arco di Augusto, probably built in 9-8 B.C., the cathedral of S.Giusto with its lofty bell tower, as well as several other monuments in the city. Return for dinner and overnight stay in Turin.

Day 6 Turin

Breakfast and departure for return journey. End of our services.

Please note: Modest dress to enter all churches in Italy, no shorts.  Shoulders and knees must be covered.
