Day 1 Aquileia

Arrival in afternoon in Aquileia, old Roman city, the most important archaeological site in northern Italy. You'll see the forum, remains of public baths and private houses, Roman roads with visible chariot tracks and the ancient Basilica dated 313 A.D. which hosts stunning Byzantine frescoes and one of the largest and most spectacular early-Christian mosaic floors of Western Europe. Check-in at your hotel in Grado, your home for the next four nights. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 Trieste, Miramare Castle

In the morning we travel to Trieste, the capital of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where we can see the echoes of its rich past. Due to the historic circumstances, here intermingled three cultures and languages: Austrian, Italian and Slavic. The city blossomed in the 19^th century into a sophisticated, intellectual capital with grandiose architecture and was widely noted for its musical and literary life, but in the new post-war order of Europe swiftly lost its cultural and commercial significance. Guided tour of the old town starting from the Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia, the symbol of Trieste, a huge rectangular piazza opening on one side onto the Gulf of Trieste, the largest in Europe looking onto the sea, and surrounded by magnificent houses and public buildings. Our tour continues with a visit to the splendid Miramar Castle, the romantic residence of Maximilian from Hapsburg and Charlotte from Belgium. Day 3 San Daniele del Friuli, Spilimbergo

Departure to San Daniele, well known for the incomparable taste of its exquisite prosciutto, which is said to be the most delicate in all of Italy. Visit to a prosciutto factory followed by a walking tour of the town centre, nicknamed the ‘Siena of Friuli’ because of its architectural beauty and the rolling hill country that surrounds it. Tour continuation towards Spilimbergo, a medieval town with strong roots in art. It is known as the ‘Town of the Mosaic,’ due to the large mosaics found throughout the town, like the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the most important Gothic buildings in Friuli. Spilimbergo is famous for the “Palazzo Dipinto”, the pride of its castle buildings. Return for dinner and overnight stay in your hotel in Grado.

Day 4 Udine. Cividale del Friuli

Today we leave for the enchanting city of Udine in the heart of Friuli, whose flavour is distinctly Venetian as the town hall looks like a mini Doge's palace and the clock tower is an exact replica of the one in St. Mark's square. We'll stroll down the most characteristics streets before reaching the beautiful castle on a top of a hill from where we'll enjoy wonderful views over the town and the countryside with the gorgeous Alps on the background. The next stop is Cividale del Friuli, a little gem in the eastern foothills of Friuli. Founded by Julius Caesar, this charming little town is known for its delicious Gubana, an exquisite type of strudel filled with apples, pine seeds and raisins, for its top class wines and lively atmosphere that you can breath strolling around the narrow cobble stone streets. Return for dinner and overnight stay in Grado

Day 5 Grado

Breakfast and departure for return journey. End of our services.
