Program details

Learn to row like a true Venetian in this city of small islands. We’ve all seen gondoliers gliding sedately through the canals, conjuring up images of days long past. Now it’s your turn to try it out in this 1.5 hour lesson through the canals on a traditional boat known as a ‘batella’ or ‘coda di gambero’ – which translates as a shrimp’s tail.

Steer your own gondola through the atmospheric network of waterways that are this magical and unique city’s thoroughfares. Try out your balance in the style known as voga alla venetta – the traditional standing, facing forwards rowing method used to power the iconic gondola. . This way, not only can you see where you are going but, as you are standing up, you have a greatly improved view and opportunity to interact with fellow canal users.

Explore the maze of waterways as you glide under some of the 400 bridges in this most romantic of cities. Be the envy of pedestrians as you propel the beautiful, all-wooden craft under the expert guidance of a qualified instructor and even have the chance to steer it out into the Venice lagoon. See the spectacular sights of Venice as they were meant to be seen, from the water!
