Program details

Join us on a truly mouthwatering tour through the gastronomic delights of this ancient city. Our meeting point to begin this adventure is at Korai Street, a colourful, bustling location to start the tour. From here, head off the beaten track to discover a mouth-watering array of specialty food stores, fragrant delicatessens, bakeries, grocers, sweet shops and even traditional pie shops. Along the way you will get the opportunity to sample some of the exquisite food on offer, such as succulent black olives, a trade mark of Greek cooking, and other examples of traditional Greek food you may be less familiar with.

Your specialist food guide will not only lead you expertly through this sumptuous route and show you hidden specialty shops, but also give you an interesting insight into the history of this singular Greek culinary heritage. Learn as well about the term Mediterranean Diet and the huge benefits of this now greatly recognised style of eating.

Our journey continues through the streets of central Athens and here we discover more delectable shops and stalls. The aromatic spices and explosions of colours will make your taste buds sing!

Our tour would not be complete with a visit to a genuine Greek market and we end ours at the spectacular Varvakeios food market. Here you will find amazing stores displaying a huge variety of meats, fish, fruit and exotic spices. And while you explore this food heaven try you skill at bargaining with the stall holders, just like you will hear the locals doing – loudly!

Meeting/pick-up point: ZARA Department Store, outside Panepistimio metro station at "Korai" street. Your tour guide will hold an orange colored Athens Walking Tours sign to identify him / her. Note that there are three Panepistimio metro station exits. Two of them are on the main road “Panepistimio" and the third one where we meet is in the middle of the pedestrian walk way Korai street.
