Program details

Seville Cathedral is one attraction you simply cannot miss on a visit to this spellbinding city. This magnificent building, officially known as the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, is one of the largest churches in Christendom. On this guided tour you will learn all about the history of this massive, exuberant building – according to oral oral tradition its builders said “Let us build a church so beautiful and so great that those who see it built will think we were mad''.

One of Seville's best known landamarks is the glorious Giralda, a golden-hued belfry standing over 100m high and orginally modelled on the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakesh. It was originally built in 1184 as part of the Great Mosque and has since had Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, Baroque, Neo-Classical and neo-Gothic additions, resulting in the eclectic architectural gem of today.

In the Cathedral itself you will find 80 chapels, 24 bells, 15 doors including the Door of Forgiveness, dating from the Islamic caliphate where you can still admire the delicate Koranic inscriptions. Marvel at the amazing 360 square metre gilded altarpiece – which took 80 years to make – look up at the stunning stuccoed vaults or wander around the peaceful Patio of the Orange Trees.
