Program details

Journey to the spellbinding Dandenong Ranges where you will ride the Puffing Billy steam train, enjoy morning tea and feed the birds at Grant’s Reserve among other activities. Come along for a morning of good old fashioned fun amid some of the most beautiful rainforests in Victoria and discover also numerous art and craft stores.

The trip will take you through Melbourne's eastern suburbs with views of the Dandenong Ranges in the distance. At their peak, they are cloaked in lush rainforests of mountain ash trees (the world’s tallest flowering plant) waterfalls, rolling hills and steep valleys. Nestled in the heart of the mountains is Grant's Reserve, where you will enjoy homemade scones, served warm with jam and cream and tea served in china tea cups. Grant's Reserve is a paradise for bird life and you can hand feed some of the most striking Australian species such as the colourful Crimson Rosella, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos and pink-chested galahs.

Head to Belgrave, home of the Puffing Billy Steam Train, where you are in for a real treat! This century-old steam train is maintained in its original glory and runs to this day on its own mountain track to Gembrook. Here you'll go back in time as you get on board for a 30 minute ride through the heart of the rainforest. Then make your way to the lovely village of Sassafras, where you can explore its delightful antique and craft shops.
