Step ashore to Kusadasi from your cruise ship and step back in time with a visit to the ancient city of Priene, Miletus and Didyma. Priene was an ancient Greek city located just to the north of Miletus in western Turkey. In classical times, it was a holy city and the home of an important temple of Athena.

Priene's ruins include several columns of the Temple of Athena, much of the city wall, a well-preserved theatre and a council chamber. The ruins are next to the modern town of Güllübahce. Priene was discovered by the inhabitants on the Ionian coast. The Ionians first arrived and settled here in the 11th century BC and the city was founded either by Aegyptus of Athens, Philotas of Thebes or Amazon queens.

Miletus was an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, near the mouth of the Maeander River in ancient Caria. Its ruins are located near the modern town of Balat in Aydin Province, Turkey. Before the Persian invasion in the middle of the 6th century BC, Miletus was considered the greatest and wealthiest of Greek cities.

The gigantic Temple of Apollo at Didyma was among the most famous oracles in the ancient world, equal in importance to the oracular temple at Delphi in Greece. Today, the temple's magnificent ruins still attract thousands of visitors - Didyma is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey. The modern name of the town is Didim.
