Program details

Take a memorable tour through Panyu, an endlessly inspiring district studded with historical attractions and tranquil gardens. Panyu is a district of Guangzhou and lies at the heart of the Pearl River Delta in the province of Guangdong. It is one of the oldest cities in China, having been established in 214 BC. Archaeological evidence suggests that it has a long history as a thriving commercial centre, with remnants being found from as far afield as South East Asia, India and even Africa.

Your tour begins with a visit to Yu Yin Shan Fang, one of the four famous gardens of Guangzhou. Built in the Qing Dynasty, this garden takes on the architectural style of Suzhou courtyards and offers exquisite carvings in brick, wood and stone. Wandering among its rich assortment of pavilions, bridges, pools and fragrant flower-lined paths is a perfect way to appreciate the sublime beauty of this peaceful and harmonious place. Although not the largest garden in the area, what it lacks in size it makes up for in the elegance and thought with which it has been designed and laid out.

After a restoring lunch at a local Chinese restaurant your next port of call will be the Bao Mo Garden. This garden, which extends over an area of more than 5,000 square metres, was originally laid out at the end of the Qing dynasty and completely renovated in 1995. As well as boasting a wide range of traditional Chinese pavilions it has numerous rivers and lakes, home to thousands of colourful carp.
This tour is the perfect introduction to many-faceted Panyu.
