Program details

On your tour of the Prambanan Hindu Shrine feel like Indiana Jones as you uncover one of the world's most beautiful Hindu temples. You can choose to take a tour in the morning or the afternoon to visit Java’s spectacular Unesco World Heritage Site and Hindu shrine.

Prambanan Hindu Temple is the largest temple compound dedicated to Shiva in the whole of Indonesia and one of the biggest in southeast Asia. This architectural masterpiece dates back to the ninth century and is set amid a lush tropical landscape. It is a fascinating blend of elegance and beauty that showcases Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. It is also known as the Rorojongrang (or ‘slender virgin’) temple and on this tour you will learn all about this legendary tale. Due to its location in the vicinity of the famous Buddhist Borobudur Temple you will observe how the two religions continue to live peacefully together side by side.

Your guide will take you through a large complex made up of singular temples. Among these you will see the Brahma (God as the Creator), Vishnu (God as the Preserver) and Shiva (God as the Destroyer) Temples whilst revealing to you the beguiling secrets of Prambanan’s past.

Maybe you could also return in the evening to witness more than 200 enchanting dancers and musicians performing ballet open-air against a backdrop of the Prambanan Temples. These brightly adorned performers showcase authentic Javanese culture and traditions, and seeing them is an opportunity not to be missed.
