Program details

Awaken all five of your senses to the inimitable beauty of nature with this exciting visit to the Audubon Butterfly Garden and its adjacent and equally fascinating Insectarium. Fall in love with the tiniest creatures of creation and marvel at the cleverness of evolution.

Highlights
- The key role played by insects in the gigantic world they inhabit
- What it feels like to see life from the point of view of a tiny creature
- The diverse wildlife that fills the swamps of Louisiana with their particular charm

The weird and wonderful Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium are located in the US Custom House among the hustle and bustle of Canal Street. Escape from our hectic and stress-driven metropolis and delve into a society that exists alongside ours only on a much, much smaller scale. Prepare your senses for a treat as you delve into the largest museum in the whole of North America that is devoted entirely to insects and their curious relatives.

Discover a variety of interesting fun facts and trivia titbits, such as why insects are the building blocks of all life forms on our planet. Along the way you will also experience what it is like to shrink down to bug size and see the world as they see it: inconceivably huge and infinitely menacing. Walk through a mysterious Louisiana swamp and join the active audience of an awards show for bugs and held by bugs. And, of course, fall in love with the thousands of butterflies that flutter around the Asian garden.

Normallly open from Tuesday to Sundau. Open on Mondays in spring and summer and during some public holidays. Closed on Mardi Gras Day/Shrove Tuesday, thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
