Wat Sri Sanphet, one of the most iconic images in Ayutthaya, is an outstanding monastery, previously used a palace during the reign of King Ramathibodi I. See the glorious remains from the past and wander along its temple and pagodas, before visiting Wat Phananchoeng, a monastery which existed before the founding of Ayutthaya as capital. Its 19 metre-high Buddha is the most revered by locals and will leave you spell-bound. Next you continue to Wat Yai Chaimongkho, whose chedi is amongst the largest in Ayutthaya built by King Naresuan. Beautiful Buddha images and gardens make this an extremely photogenic spot.
