Program details

Go on a gourmet spree on this fabulous night out in the restaurants of Istanbul. Forget all the Orientalist conceptions of belly dancers and any type of folkloric dancer and even drop the fear of winding up in a tourist trip – this night is the essence of fun.

The tour takes you to where the locals go to dinner, real Turkish style. Meet and mingle with gangs of friends enjoying a night out. Begin your eye-opening evening in a traditional simit bakery (simit is a bread roll covered with grape molasses and sesame seeds). After that, visit a local kiraathane, or reading room in English. These are quaint little coffee shops full of moustachioed men playing cards or backgammon. Sit, enjoy the bohemian atmosphere and sip some typical Turkish tea.

Then it’s on to another traditional establishment, the ocakbasi, where you can grill your very own kebabs by the fire while knocking back a good old glass of Turkey’s most famous savoury liqueur: raki. Your next stop is Meyhane, a tavern where you will get a chance to taste meze, drink raki and hear Turkish music performed by Gypsies.

The night is far from over. Complete your evening the same way Turks do after being sated with raki: with a hearty bowl of tripe soup. Also, you can’t go home without tasting the world famous Turkish coffee. By the time you return to your hotel, you will feel your stomach floating in food heaven.
