Program details

Visit Diamond Head, the most recognised landmark in all of Hawaii, to explore this saucer-shaped crater formed around 300,000 years ago, and look out across the Pacific for some of the best views of the surrounding area. Who was Diamond Head Charlie? Why did Kamehameha's warriors attack Oahu? Where were the ancient heiaus, human sacrificial altars and burial caves? How did the crater receive its famous name? Enjoy an educational and fun guided hike to the 763-foot summit of the most famous crater on Earth where incredible 360° views of Waikiki and the turquoise blue Pacific Ocean await you.

This exciting tour of the world-famous Diamond Head Crater begins with a short introductory talk from a trained nature guide. You will learn about the fascinating volcanic creation of this huge geological feature, Hawaiian history including its European discovery, early cattle ranching, and modern-day military use of the 'Gibraltar of the Pacific' while being escorted on a 45-minute walk right to the very top of Diamond Head. Along the way you’ll stop at several points to rest and photograph the crater. Clambering up the spiral staircases and plunging into the darkness of a 200-foot tunnel makes this walk a real adventure, and you'll be rewarded by the most spectacular views of the island, its emerald green mountains and the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean below.

On your way up the mountain you'll also pick up some fascinating titbits of information about Hawaii's native bird and plant species. With the knowledge of your guide, the beautiful surroundings and a certificate of achievement stating that you made it to this famous summit, the Diamond Head crater hike offers an unmissable experience.
