Program details

Journey to a scenic mountain rainforest high above the shimmering waters of Pearl Harbor in a place that time has passed by on the Oahu mountain rainforest hike. Here in the Honolulu Watershed Forest Reserve there are mighty rainforest trees, giant ferns, scattered boulders and vistas of the ocean will make you feel as though you have travelled back in time or to the very ends of the earth.

In this beautiful setting, walk into a native forest of scarlet flowered Ohia lehuas, white Hibiscuses, fragrant Kopikos and majestic Koa trees. This is the best trail on Oahu to observe the rare and colourful Hawaiian honeycreepers, tiny bright birds including the crimson Apapane and the yellow-green Amakihi.

This ancient and beautiful forest is home to a range of other fantastic creatures besides the diminutive honeycreepers. Bright butterflies and scuttling beetles live among the leaf litter, bats hang upside down in their roosts, and little lizards bask in spots of sunshine as small as a coin. Panoramic ocean and mountain views top off an incredible adventure into the heart of the rainforest.
