Visit a coffee farm to learn about how the world's favourite morning pick-me-up is made, and then head to the Volcanoes National Park where admission is included. This sacred spot for native islanders is a humbling experience for visitors too, as you watch the earth melt into rivers of lava and shift before your eyes at Kilauea Iki crater. Learn more about Hawaii's volcanic past at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory and Jagger Museum, where great plumes of hissing steam escape the shifting earth. At Thurston Lava Tube you can even enter a long cave made by cooled lava.



Recover from all that excitement at the orchid nursery in Hilo, where these exquisite blooms are cultivated in greenhouses. Then enjoy a sweet treat the Big Island Candy Factory, where the macadamia nut cookies are a particular highlight, made with the highest quality local ingredients and winning plentiful awards. Finally drive along stunning Hamakua Coast, past dense forests and dramatic waterfalls to the Parker Ranch lands in Waimea, home of the Hawaiian ‘paniolo’ cowboys and one of the oldest and most historic ranches in the United States.
