Program details

Just 49 kilometres away from Bogota, lies the magical salt cathedral of Zipaquira, a monumental architectural treasure that attracts over 13 million visitors a year. Declared the first wonder of Colombia in 2007, this tour will take you directly to this fascinating site through the picturesque Savannah of Bogota.

The masterpiece that is Zipaquira Cathedral was built by the miners 2,652 metres above sea level; its beauty and elegance transcend anything you’ve seen before. Buried deep in the hill of Zipa, its sculptures, made by the very own hands of the miners, and illuminations create an atmosphere that you won’t forget. Whilst you’re in the cathedral visit the sacred axis, salt dome and mine, which is the largest deposit of salt rock in the world; as well as the balconies, narthex complex and naves of the cathedral. Another attraction is the illuminated mirror of water, which gracefully lights up the whole area with its reflections - a truly striking experience.

After visiting the famous cathedral, you have time to explore the nearby town of Zipaquira. Enjoy a tour around this charming town, whose main square is surrounded by Spanish colonial style buildings. Learn about the cultural and historic heritage of Colombia as you step through Zipaquira’s pleasant streets. On the way back to Bogota you can also admire the equally appealing countryside, with the rich colours of the Savannah of Bogota and Común Bridge revealing themselves before your eyes.
