Program details

Drive, discover and explore fascinating countryside and fascinating places. Visit La Calera for top views over Bogota and walk through Sesquilé to admire the spectacular Lake Guatavita. After lunch visit a monumental architectural treasure not to be missed on any trip to Colombia: the salt cathedral of Zipaquira.

Leaving Bogota we first drive to La Calera from where stunning views over the city unfold. Surrounded by rolling hills and lush landscapes, this is a drive to remember. Once we reach Sesquilé in the Almeidas province, we stretch our legs and enjoy an ecological walk up to the magical peculiarly circular Lake Guatavita. Located 3,000 metres above sea level, its formation still remains a mystery: it is said it was formed in a crater; however other theories still exist. Legend also has it that this is where the El Dorado legend occurred; it’s one of the Muisca’s sacred lakes and its sparkling beauty will leave you dumbfounded. Enjoy a delicious lunch and re-energise for the afternoon ahead of you at the salt cathedral.

The masterpiece that is Zipaquira Cathedral was built by the miners 2,652 metres above sea level; its beauty and elegance transcend anything you’ve seen before. Buried deep in the hill of Zipa, its sculptures made of salt and marble, made by the very own hands of the miners, and illuminations create an atmosphere that you won’t forget. At the end of the tour we make our way back to Bogota in the early evening.
