Program details

Visit one of the finest colonial villages in Colombia with this full day tour from Bogota. Travel from Cundinamarca to Boyaca through stunning scenery to Villa de Leyva where the Paleontological Museum, Santo Ecce Homo convent and the Muisca astronomical observatory are waiting to be discovered.

Once we have departed from Bogota, we make a stop at an emblematic site in the history of Colombia, located near Tunja, Boyaca Bridge was the scene of one of the greatest battles fought in the history of Colombian independence, and was pivotal in its campaign. Next, discover the city of Tunja on the eastern edge of the Andes before we arrive in Villa de Leyva. Its high altitude of 2,144 meters adds to its atmosphere and fame as one of the finest colonial villages in the country. Enjoy its typical architecture, above all the Plaza Mayor - one of the largest town squares in Latin America- and paving stones which take you back to colonial times.

Visit the Paleontological Museum, curated by the National University of Colombia, and to the Santo Ecce Homo convent founded in 1620. Its main characteristic is the church and cemetery, an example of the mudejar art style as well as the cloister. Last on the itinerary are the ancient ruins of the Muisca astronomical observatory, ‘El Infiernito’ (or ‘little hell’) before we make our way back to Bogota.
