Popayan is one of the most impressive colonial settlements after Cartagena, and with this tour you’ll witness both its historical and architectural importance. As a former seat of power, Popayan boasts striking buildings and monuments, luckily still visible today after the earthquake in 1983. You’ll start the tour at the Religious Art Museum, where you can wander passed 16th century Christian iconography and Quito School pictures housed in the former residence of the Arboleda family. Then head into the National Museum of Guillermo Valencia located in a mansion dedicated to the Spanish modernist poet, Guillermo Valencia, before being able to admire a miniature version of Popayan at the Patojo village. The tour continues with a walk through its beautiful historical centre passed the largest and most attractive church in the city, San Francisco, as well as Belén Chapel and the Sebastián de Belalcázar viewpoints where you are afforded panoramic views across the city. Carry on passed the Church of San José to the well-known Clock Tower, nicknamed the ‘nose of Popayan’.

Popayan is the only site in Latin America to be named a City of Gastronomy by the Unesco Creative Cities, and with this tour you can sample its gastronomic prowess with the lunch that is included.
