Program details

Prepare yourself for the adventure of a lifetime on our tour of Iceland’s spectacular south coast, which includes an exhilarating hike through Porsmork (otherwise known as Thor’s Woodland). This inspiring tour will introduce you to an area of unparalleled beauty as you come face to face with Iceland’s distinctive natural wonders.

A tour for those with an adventurous sprit, the tour’s main attraction, Thor’s Woodland is a nature reserve dramatically shielded on 3 sides by glaciers and soaring mountain peaks. As the glaciers melt they form rivers that have to be crossed on the way there and can change in a matter of hours from an innocent stream into a thunderous torrent. This only adds to the thrill of this exciting tour. Our highly skilled drivers are experienced with these driving conditions, ensuring that you enjoy this adrenaline-pumping ride across the river.

Once across, we will stop to allow you to admire the breathtaking scenery with its multitude of small gullies and valleys dotted with low birch-trees. Various hiking routes are available and everyone will be advised on a suitable one for their level. You are then given one hour to embark on a hike and have lunch. Lunch can be purchased at our stop in Hvolsvollur or you can bring it with you.

On the way back we will make a stop at the rugged gorge of Stakkholtgia for another 1-hour hike. Take on the challenge of crossing the river by hopping from one stone to another. As you reach the end of the gorge you will be mesmerised by the thundering sound of the stunning waterfall and have the opportunity to climb up and see it closely. This tour is a fantastic way for nature lovers, adventurers and hikers to see Iceland’s truly unforgettable scenery, guaranteeing memories that will be cherished forever.
